“Buxa, Asociación Gallega del Patrimonio Industrial” es una entidad sin ánimo de lucro constituida al amparo de la Ley Orgánica 1/2002, del 22 de marzo, reguladora del Derecho de Asociación. Su fin es el fomento del conocimiento de la industria en sus ámbitos técnico, arqueológico, histórico, económico, sociológico, ambiental e historiográfico. Para la consecución de este fin, la Asociación tiene, entre otros, los siguientes objetivos:

  • La investigación del patrimonio industrial (arqueológico, antiguo, moderno y contemporáneo), de la historia industrial, de la economía industrial, de la sociología industrial y de la historiografía industrial.
  • La difusión por cualquier medio del conocimiento de dicho patrimonio industrial, de la historia industrial, de la economía industrial, de la sociología industrial y de la historiografía industrial.
  • La recuperación, la rehabilitación, la construcción y la reconstrucción material, así como la defensa y la promoción, de dicho patrimonio industrial.
  • El inventario del patrimonio industrial y la gestión del conocimiento del mismo, incluso en sus aspectos técnicos, arqueológicos, históricos, económicos, sociológicos, ambientales e historiográficos, ya con medios informáticos o telemáticos, ya por cualquier medio en soporte tradicional.
  • La organización o realización de estudios, jornadas, seminarios, cursos y eventos en general orientados a la consecución de los fines indicados.
  • El patrocinio, la preparación, el diseño, la edición y la distribución de publicaciones en cualquier tipo de soporte para la consecución de los fines indicados.
  • Cualquier otra actividad encaminada a la divulgación y consecución de los fines anteriormente citados.

Desde Buxa procuramos la recuperación, la rehabilitación, y la reconstrucción material del patrimonio industrial de nuestra tierra, así como el mejor conocimiento, la defensa y la promoción de dicho patrimonio industrial como parte de nuestra historia; en definitiva, la puesta en valor de nuestro patrimonio industrial.

Multitud de actividades humanas que tuvieron, y aún tienen, profundas consecuencias históricas dejaron su huella pegada en lo que se conoce como patrimonio industrial: herramientas, maquinaria, edificios, canteras, minas, caminos, vehículos, puentes, canales, embarcaciones… Este singular patrimonio tiene un valor social universalmente reconocido como parte del registro de vidas de hombres y mujeres corrientes, y, como tal, proporciona un importante sentimiento de identidad.

El conocimiento de este acervo cultural, su recuperación y su preservación para generaciones futuras garantiza una mejor inteligibilidad de nuestro decurso histórico y del enorme impacto que la industrialización tuvo sobre nuestra cultura. Y no es menos importante el papel que desempeñan estos referentes culturales en la revitalización de los vínculos de muchas personas con sus referentes territoriales.

El inventario del patrimonio industrial y la gestión del conocimiento del mismo en sus aspectos técnicos, arqueológicos, históricos, económicos, sociológicos, ambientales e historiográficos, pueden atraer a nuestra tierra una nueva riqueza, cultural e turística.

Entendemos además como una obligación de toda la sociedad, a nivel individual y colectivo, el conservar y proteger el Patrimonio Industrial para su mejor conocimiento y difusión como parte inexcusable del Patrimonio Cultural, y porque en él se juntan dos aspectos o valores fundamentales: primero, como documento e información histórica de todo tipo y de cualquier época, lo que tiene una transcendencia científica, educativa y social innegable; y segundo, pero no menos importante, como conjunto de bienes heredados, como verdaderos bienes patrimoniales, que pueden ser gozados y utilizados por toda la comunidad social -tanto la propia como la que viene de fuera- para usos didácticos, turísticos, sociales, o de ocio.

Buxa, The Galician Association for the Industrial Heritage, is a non-profit institution established under the protection of Spanish Law 1/2002, March 22nd, ruling Association Law. Its aim is to foster the understanding of the industry in its technology, archaeology, history, economy, sociology, environment and historiography fields. To achieve such purpose, the Association has, amongst others, the following objectives:

  • The investigation of the industrial heritage (archaeological, ancient, modern and contemporary), the industrial history, the industrial economy, the industrial sociology and the industrial historiography.
  • The dissemination by any means of the understanding of the mentioned industrial heritage, of the industrial history, of the industrial economy, of the industrial sociology and of the industrial historiography.
  • The recovering, the refurbishing, the construction and reconstruction, as well as the preservation and the promotion of the mentioned industrial heritage.
  • The inventory of the industrial heritage and the management of its knowledge, even in its technical, archaeological, historical, economical, sociological, environmental and historiographical sides, either by computing or telematic means, or either by any other mean in the traditional way.
  • The organization or performance of studies, conferences, seminars, congresses and any other event seeking to achieve the mentioned goals.
  • The sponsorship, the preparation, the design, the edition and the distribution of publications in any kind of support to achieve the mentioned goals.
  • Any other activity intended for the dissemination and achievement of the mentioned goals.

Buxa endeavours to recover, to refurbish, and to reconstruct our land’s industrial heritage, as well as to reach a greater understanding and appreciation, preservation and promotion of the mentioned industrial heritage as a piece of our history; once and for all, to attach importance to our industrial heritage.

Multitudes of human activities which had and continue to have profound historical consequences leave its remains in which is called industrial heritage: tools, machinery, buildings, quarries, mines, roads, vehicles, bridges, waterways, boats… This particular heritage has the universal acknowledgement of its social value as part of the record of the lives of ordinary men and women, and as such it provides an important sense of identity.

The knowledge and understanding of this cultural wealth, and its recovering and conservation for future generations guarantees a better understanding of our history over the years and of the huge impact of the industrialization on our culture. And is not of least importance the meaning of those cultural remains in order to revitalize the links of many people with their territorial references.

The industrial heritage inventory and the management of its knowledge in its technical, archaeological, historical, economical, sociological, environmental and historiographical sides will bring to our country a new cultural and touristic wealth.
