Can we save her?

Seventy years after construction, and after forty four years of effective service, the trawler “Bernardo Alfageme”, yielded in the year 2000 to the Municipality of Vigo and carefully restored, might be left in land by the laziness and municipal ineptitude.

Buit in 1944, in the shipyard “Hijos de J. Barreras”, this ship is today the only fishing trawler of the first half of the 20th century that remains and that can still show us how its fourteen crew members were living confronting the hard fishing expeditions to the Grand Sole.

Mr James G. Skinner, who was Honorary British Consul in Galicia, sent us a copy of the letter he addressed to the Valedor del Ciudadano, in which he asks for the location in the Museo del Mar of such an outstanding element of the industrial heritage of Galicia, alive sample of the brilliant epoch of the fishing, the conserve and the naval construction in our land.
